Marley Park is the hot spot this summer. There will be three
major concerts at the end of August. The Frames, Supergrass and Idlewild will be
performing on Saturday, 21st August. The White Stripes, plus guests will make an
appearance on Tuesday, 24 August and Dido and the Scissor Sisters will finish up
Ireland's outdoor summer concerts on Wedneday, 25 August.
The White
Stripes have become very popular in Ireland over the last 3/4 years. Formed in
'97, they have a very unique and distintive rock and roll sound. Their
influences include bands such as the Kinks and blues musicians such as Blind
Willie McTell. The White Stripes will be highly awaited especially for those
fans who missed them at last years Witnness Festival.
Supergrass will be
another great concert. They describe their music as upbeat, uplifting and full
of energy, you can't argue with that. To hear some snippets from their recent
best of album, check out this link.
Dido, wow!, songs such as White Flag, Life for Rent, Don't Leave Home,
All you want and Thank You have made Dido one of the most respected artists in
Europe. Artists such as Sinead O'Connor, Alanis Morissette, Enya, Beth Ortson
and Seal have had an obvious effect on the young London lass. Her music is
characterised by enjoyable acoustic rhythms and melodic string harmonies. Dido
was made a star overnight when Eminem borrowed the melody from her song, Thank
You, for his hit song Stan.
Rock and indie fans should definitely check
out the gigs featuring the Frames and the White Stripes. Dido should satify
those who are looking for something a little bit more soulful and cool.
Tickets can be bought online at Ticketmaster.
Shuttle buses will operate before and after the concert, check out Dublin Bus for details.
