Colaiste Eanna, a public school, is the top performing boy's school in Rathfarnham. 46% of this year's bunch accepted a place in one of the 7 Universities across Ireland. Terenerue College and Rockbrook College, both private, achieved a lower ranking with 40% and 7% respectively.

Knocklyon Community School performed less than anticipated. The co-educational secondary school, which opened in 2000, only achieved a ranking of 26%.

The two remaining girls schools, Our Ladys and Sancta Maria, fell below the 50% mark. Our Ladys School and Sancta Maria College achieved a ranking of 46% and 35% respectively.

De La Salle College is at the bottom of the list. Of the 44 students who sat the Leaving in 2007, only 3 of them made it to University. (7%).

It must be noted that the figures do not include students who accepted places in Institutes of Technology.

From looking at the figures, there are no clear winners regarding the performance between public and private schools. However, it appears that girls will perform better at Loreto Beaufort (private). However, Colaiste Eanna (public) seems to be the best option for boys. Selecting a school is a very tough decision for any parent. It must be stressed that academic performance is only one factor of many that should be considered when selecting a school. Parents should weigh up other issues such as sports, leisure activities, Transition Year Programme and the availability of subjects.
